Let's Play Every Game Boy Color Game, Part 73

Top Gear Pocket (Vision Works/Kemco, 1999)
This is hands-down the best Outrun-style racing game I've seen so far, largely because it keeps the track wide enough and the elevation changes tame enough that you feel like you have some control despite only being able to see a quarter second down the track. Unfortunately, it still isn't something I want to play because the engine noises at max speed are unbearable, and you're usually going max speed.

Top Gear Pocket 2 (Vision Works/Kemco, 1999)
The sequel partially fixes the engine noises, but forgets everything else that made the first one unusually good. You're back to playing on very narrow tracks that swing up and down impossibly quickly. It's not as hard to control as a lot of these are, but it is mildly nauseating to look at.

Top Gun: Firestorm (Fluid Studios/Titus Software, 2001)
This perspective allows for some great looking unit graphics, but planes don't really have the maneuverability to be fun to control when you're this close to enemies. Which is a shame, because the music is also good, so if they'd just made it about helicopters or something similar instead, it probably would've been fine.

Totsugeki! Pappara Tai (J-Wing, 2000)
J-Wing really outdid themselves on the weirdness scale this time, because it's a game about fighting off an army of giant evil cockroaches. It plays a bit like Space Invaders, or at least it would if you played it at all, but you shouldn't do that.

Tottoko Hamutarou: Tomodachi Daisakusen Dechu (Pax Softonica/Nintendo, 2000)
The first of the two Hamtaro games for GBC didn't release outside of Japan, but it's just an unbelievably slow paced Tamagotchi game, so no one really missed anything.

Towers: Lord Baniff's Deceit (JV Games/Telegames, 2000)
A first person dungeon crawler that released in 1993 to mixed reviews on Atari ST, and was then inexplicably ported to GBC seven years later. In a surprise twist to no one, it still wasn't very good and the reviews weren't any better. It's basically incomprehensible without the manual, because I sure have no idea what "Ra Me Lal Sar Kin Xas Pab Ke En kele Mem Hal Ha Rab Sir Tab Ki" means.

Trick Boarder (Natsume, 2000)
A snowboard racing game that just doesn't feel good to control. It has a dedicated brake button that's useless in a race and a jump button that is only occasionally useful, but nothing to lean down and go faster. The slope is covered in things that would be used for doing tricks, but there's no reason or ability to do any. At least the graphics are nice.

Triple Play 2001 (Handheld Games/THQ, 2000)
A baseball game that uses broadly the same pitching and batting mechanics as Mario Superstar Baseball. It doesn't really work at the very low framerate this game can manage, though, and pitching has even less depth when you're working with one button and a dpad. Best left in the past.

Trouballs (Paragon 5/Capcom, 2001)
A puzzle game where you rotate gears to get the matching color balls into 2x2 squares, at which point they disappear. I've just noticed there are only two blue ones in this screenshot, so I'm guessing that means I also could've done a 3x2 match right before taking it. At any rate, maybe interesting if you like puzzle games.

Tsuri Sensei 2 (J-Wing, 1999)
If you're going to play a fishing game on GBC, it should probably be this one. It still uses an ugly Japanese font that's very hard to read and the graphics aren't great, but it respects your time enough to have fish bite quickly and has pretty good music. Still, I'm not coming back to it. Fishing is a fun minigame that I don't want to be the entire game.
