Let's Play Every Game Boy Color Game, Early Alphabet Port to Blog 2

Previous post

Part 2 of games I previously covered on Discord before the blogs existed.

Alice in Wonderland

Alice in Wonderland (Digital Eclipse/Nintendo, 2000)

Licensed mostly-platformer. This is the second level, which has you falling very slowly for ages and ages. If you get hit by fast moving objects too many times, you have to start all over.

Aliens: Thanatos Encounter

Aliens: Thanatos Encounter (Crawfish Interactive/THQ, 2001)

Top down shooter where you rescue guys by walking over them and shoot aliens with bad AI. You look a lot more like robocop than a space marine.

All-Star Baseball 2000

All-Star Baseball 2000 (Realtime Associates/Acclaim Sports, 1999)

I was way too harsh on this when I talked about it in Discord. Yeah, it doesn't look or play great compared to contemporary console games, but it has all the features you'd expect out of a baseball game and it plays much better than anything else on the system.

All-Star Baseball 2001

All-Star Baseball 2001 (KnowWonder/Acclaim Sports, 2000)

Having said that, I was not too harsh in describing this as exactly the same game, because it is exactly the same game. They just changed some menu colors.

All Star Tennis 2000

All Star Tennis 2000 (Smart Dog/Ubisoft, 1999)

A pretty basic tennis game, but honestly that's for the best. A lot of the other GBC ones try to be too complicated for the controls. This is simple and effective.

Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare

Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare (Pocket Studios/Infogrames, 2001)

It looks a bit rough, but getting a 3D Resident Evil-style fixed camera running on GBC is no small feat. This is a really neat survival horror game that didn't review particularly well back in the day, but absolutely has to go on the list for how unique it is.

Animal Breeder 3

Animal Breeder 3 (J-Wing, 1999)

It's essentially Tamagochi, but you can enter your pet into contests and there's an overworld. They put some effort into the plot and gave you a lot of interactions to work with, so it was probably pretty fun back in the day.

Animal Breeder 4

Animal Breeder 4 (J-Wing, 2001)

AB4 simplifies the overworld, but adds a ridiculous amount of plot exposition and expands the available interactions. Way too much translating for me to want to deal with, but it might also have been fun for Japanese players 20 years ago.

Animastar GB

Animastar GB (Aki Corp./Media Factory, 2001)

I said this became an incomprehensible roll and move after a ridiculous amount of exposition when I played it before. This time, I could not be bothered to get through all of that. Here's a random menu that does something.

Animorphs

Animorphs (Runny-Fun/Ubisoft, 2000)

A meme game that gets a lot of coverage on AGDQ. It's basically Pokemon, but terrible, and I will leave coverage of it to them.

Antz

Antz (CLCE & Planet/Infogrames, 1999)

Licensed platformer for a successful, but seemingly forgotten movie. The game is thoroughly unremarkable.

Antz Racing

Antz Racing (RFX Interactive/Electronic Arts, 2001)

MicroMachines-style racing game that is way too fast for this resolution and features unbearably bad engine noises. This came out two years after the movie, for some reason.

Antz World Sportz

Antz World Sportz (M4 Limited/Light and Shadow Productions, 2001)

This crappy track and field game makes Antz better represented on GBC than any other animated movie, I think. Almost more than any other movie, but Star Wars also had three.
